Laurel Thomas Laulkar
turned to Yoga in 1995 seeking an alternative to surgery for her scoliosis. That success led her to Pune, India to train directly with B.K.S. Iyengar, and his daughter Geeta, for an intensive five-year study. Laurel is certified a Junior Intermediate II, by B.K.S. Iyengar since 2009. She has co-authored a forth-coming book, The Art of Alignment: An Iyengar Yoga Guide to Home Practice for Scoliosis, with Rita Lewis-Manos. Laurel is privileged to call Gloria Goldberg her mentor and continues to study with the Iyengars. She shares her joy of physical freedom, and infectious humor in her classes at Iyengar Yoga South Bay.

She has studied numerous times with the Iyengar family since 1984 in India as well as at conventions in the US. She continues her studies in the US with Manouso Manos and is enrolled in the three year Iyengar Yoga Therapeutics course. Through teaching she seeks to share the many benefits she has gained through this lifelong practice and offers her teaching as gratitude for the light that the late BKS Iyengar brought to yoga.
