Introductory Program at IYSB
Welcome to the Introductory Teacher Training program at Iyengar Yoga South Bay.
The study of yoga is a life-long journey and it is from the practice that the understanding comes. The Iyengars have always cautioned us that before one can be a teacher, one must first be a student of yoga. So our program recognizes the necessity of practice and time to become a teacher. Our program is designed to be a three year program, after which a student would have the skills and knowledge to apply for the Introductory certification.
The goals of this program are three fold:
Deepen your asana and pranayama practice
Through class instruction
Practical Teaching Skills
Developing your home practice
The art of effective demonstrations
Expand your understanding of Yoga Philosophy
How to give clear verbal Instructions
Learn to observe and give verbal corrections
Learn modifications for common injuries for the Introductory I an II
Study of classical yoga texts
Writings by BKS Iyengar and the Iyengar family
These are the requirements to attend the program:
All students must have three continuous current years of study with an Iyengar Yoga teacher.
All students must be currently attending a weekly class with an Iyengar yoga teacher.
Maintain a personal practice for which you will receive support.
Assigned homework each session which includes reading, writing assignments based on practice and reflection.
Commitment to attend all sessions. If needed, make-ups are allowed but need to be arranged in advance. Be responsible for all missed work.
